lantern day
due to the exceptional sensitivity of my pharynx and cilia in my trachea (no prizes for guessing what i'm revising) moi has fallen sick with a sore throat and a fever, thanks to the lovely haze that's swallowing up our buildings and everybody's healths.
thank you.
just really angry at the irresponsible beings that simply lit a match (ok maybe more) and caused regional problems like affected healths up to delayed or cancelled plane flights. just imagine.
40 people were arrested. the lives of 4 million are affected. and that's only local.
sigh. but the haze didnt stop my family from celebrating lantern day. (that's what i call it. dun interrupt.) and i dont mean direct family. i mean the
whole family of popo and gongong and gang. and the kids.
and thats where i come in.
see, the ages go sth like this: 16 (moi), 13, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 0. so this day
dajie plays nanny doubtfire who runs after the lil ones so they wont get burnt, bruised or bitten while playing with lanterns and sparklers or, more applicably, fighting over them. and makes sure the not-so-lil ones dun raze the playground down to bits of see-saw.
and this year nanny is promoted cos there's a new member to the PS - pandemonium squad - but he's too small and way too cute to do much damage. except to chew on nanny's shirt sleeve.
so we all gathered downstairs to soak up the moonlight and the haze. hahas it was quite fun actually. i din get a lantern cos there were too many kids, and then suddenly i got 4 lanterns cos the kids decided sparklers were more their type and ditched hello kitty, powerpuff gurls and chicken-goodness-knows-wat to poor nanny who din have a lantern.
so i walked around pretty much like a lantern myself :D
after that we all trooped up and got every lil face and hand scrubbed and washed up so they could dirty them again while eating mooncakes and pomelo.
i like that part best! hahas except this year there wasn't
tang yuan, glutinous rice balls. i helped my popo make them every year, starting from the flour, and hers were special cos they dun have the usual sesame-peanut filling. instead, she wraps brown sugar bits in small balls of flour and cooks them in sweet soup so they melt in your mouth after you bite into them. :p
and after one night of being a lantern, i was naturally dead beat and fell asleep, if possible even before some of the kids.
actually babystting is kinda fun. (roxanne i'm serious go try it.) taking care of adorable kids is really kinda like an escape from homework and stuff. :D its just that once in a while you need to get new shirts cos babies can chew like beavers. no kid-ding.
happy lantern day! :0)
